Carving a flower -step by step
This set shows all the steps in carving a flower.

1. Copy the drawing onto wood to draw round
2. Jig- or band-saw to cut out the shape
3. Screw a small block to the back to hold it in the vice
4. Saw down half way to set the petals back from the flower
5. Cut the waste away
6. The two layers of the leaves and flower ready to work on
7. Chisel down around the edge of the petals
8. Cut the waste wood away
9. Use a deep curved tool to pick out the centre of the flower
10. Use a curved tool to shape the petals down to the centre
11. Continue to shape the petals so they form a graceful shape
12. Start to similarly shape the leaves
13. Use a V-tool to start to undercut behind the petals
14. Use the v-tool to define the separate petals
15. Use a curved tool to hollow out the petals
16. Use a flat tool to further undercut the petals
17. Use a larger tool to cut away waste wood behind the leaves
18. Smooth both the back and front, first with files then sandpaper
19. Use the v-tool to carve the markings
20. The finished flower
