Carving a flower -step by step 1. Copy the drawing onto wood to draw round2. Jig- or band-saw to cut out the shape3. Screw a small block to the back to hold it in the vice4. Saw down half way to set the petals back from the flower5. Cut the waste away6. The two layers of the leaves and flower ready to work on7. Chisel down around the edge of the petals8. Cut the waste wood away9. Use a deep curved tool to pick out the centre of the flower10. Use a deep curved tool to pick out the centre of the flower11. Continue to shape the petals so they form a graceful shape12. Start to similarly shape the leaves13. Use a V-tool to start to undercut behind the petals14. Use the v-tool to define the separate petals15. Use a curved tool to hollow out the petals16. Use a flat tool to further undercut the petals17. Use a larger tool to cut away waste wood behind the leaves18. Smooth both the back and front, first with files then sandpaper19. Use the v-tool to carve the markings20. The finished flower
